Pieces that fit only one way
Every inner edge is its own curve: a lead-in, a narrow neck, a round knob and a lead-out, with the knob's place, size and neck varied a little and turned one way or the other at random. That is what makes a real jigsaw: no two pieces the same, and each fits only its neighbours. The same settings always draw the same puzzle, so what you download is what you saw.

- The photo to print, cropped to fill the puzzle at 300 dpi, to glue on wood or print on card.
- A preview with the lines, to check where the pieces fall on a face or a name before you cut.
Good puzzles, first time
- Set the size first, then the piece count: pieces are kept close to square for that size.
- Check the piece size in the result. Over 25 mm suits children and card; 15 to 25 mm suits plywood on a laser.
- Test the fit on one corner in your material. A laser's kerf leaves a little play, which is what lets the pieces slide together.
Questions
Can I make a puzzle from my own photo?
Yes. Add the photo and it is cropped to fill the puzzle, shown under the cut lines, and downloaded as a 300 dpi print file sized to the puzzle. The photo stays on this computer.
How do I cut it on a laser?
Glue the printed photo to 3 mm plywood or thick card and cut the SVG over it, or engrave the photo straight onto the wood and cut in the same job. The SVG opens at real size in LightBurn, xTool Creative Space, Glowforge and Inkscape, with red hairline cut lines.
Can a Cricut cut a jigsaw puzzle?
A Cricut or Silhouette cuts card and thin chipboard well, so a card puzzle for children works: print the photo on card, then cut with the SVG. Keep pieces large (over about 25 mm) for a small machine and thick card, and check the current Print Then Cut size limit in the machine maker's help pages.
Why is every puzzle different?
Each knob's position, size and neck is varied a little, and it points one way or the other at random, so pieces only fit one place. New cut pattern draws a different set; the same settings always give the same puzzle, so a download matches the preview.
How many pieces for a child?
Around 12 to 24 large pieces for a young child, 50 to 100 for older children. The tool warns when pieces get smaller than about 15 mm, which is fiddly to cut and easy to lose.
